DNA and Chromosomes

A gene contains a segment of DNA that is passed from parents to their children that contains traits. DNA is a biomolecule that holds genetic information in every living organism. Genes are organized in groups called chromosomes. Every human has 23 pairs of chromosomes. The X chromosome is a one of the two sex chromosomes that form one of the 23 pairs of chromosomes.

There is a higher chance Color blindness will occur in mostly in males rather than females. Genes that produce photopigment are carried by the X chromosome. If any genes are damaged or missing, this will cause color blindness to be in effect. Since males only have one X chromosome, if the X chromosome mutates there isn’t another X chromosome to override it, an ability that females can do.
